We Love Dimboola

After Beaufort we moved on to Dimboola. We love this town. It’s not just that it’s beautifully tidy. It’s not just that the bakery does great pies and pasties. It’s not just that the people are really friendly. It’s just got that “je ne sais quoi”.

The caravan park is just lovely. It’s literally a park where you get to camp.

Nana enjoying the campfire
Late evening

The old Holden dealership standing unchanged from when you could buy a Torana.

But most of all I love the Victoria Hotel. The food is really great pub food. Not fancy, just well cooked generous servings. The Parmas are huge, the Pork Belly melt in the mouth with crunchy crackling and if you go by the table of lovely blokes who helped lift Nana into the Pub the beef cheeks are sensational.

But my favourite bit is the decor. Everything is beautifully antique as you can see from the sitting room below.

The dining room is the same. The walls of the saloon dining room are covered in framed lace doilies. The walls of the stairs leading up to the bed rooms are covered in silver serving plates. But the best bit, well I have to tell you about the best bit.

At some point someone must have said “We need to modernise the bar, who knows about interior design”? There would have been a lot of confused looks until Johno (I’m sure it had to be a Johno, it just strikes me as a Johno thing) pipes up “I’ve seen a few episodes of The Block……. You know that show with Scott Camm…… Where they renovate buildings and the contestants are called Blockheads”. At which point there is stunned silence and Johno is given the job of modernisation. Come the day of the great reveal Johno gets everyone to close their eyes and leads them into the bar and then ta da he reveals his work. A huge flat screen TV to watch the sports on. There’s a great cheer and then the manager finally says “Is that all you’ve done”? Then Johno gets them to turn around and there is the ‘piece de resistance’.

Now that’s modern

Another great cheer and Johno is forever known as Blockhead. At least that’s how I see it as going down.
